When healthcare is the government's responsibility...

...your health, and therefore virtually every choice you make in life regardless of its triviality, becomes a problem that justifies government intervention. For example.

And, as Mark Steyn says, every bad medical outcome can only be solved by fawning to your Congressman. It's a major step down the road from the America Democrats dislike so intensely, a republic of liberties and with limited government, to the lefty social democracy utopia.

Government health care is really the ditch you want to fight in, because once you surrender that, I think it’s very difficult to have genuine self-reliant citizenry every again. It really fundamentally changes the equation.

Why stop with pop? Why not tax candy, ice cream, all pastries, sacked sugar, pizza, fast food, salt, vegetable oil, butter, chips and alcohol as well? Anyway, it is not about health, it is about Obama's insatiable mania for stealing ever more of our money. Democratic party should change it's name to the Kleptocratic Party.

"Michael Jacobson"

"Center for Science in the Public Interest"

Anytime you see either of these, you can expect a flood of used food - all for your own good! What part of "personal responsibility" do these idiots not understand? And proposing more taxes in a recession? What part of "economy" do they not comprehend?

To underline the nationalization aspect of the fight, the Senate is considering removing employer deductibility for health insurance payments. That'll end private health insurance once and for all, in favor of the so-called "public option".

How about they tax unsafe sexual practices like gay anal sex or gay bjs? Seems that either orifice would be receiving something much more dangerous than sugar and our nanny state should be much more concerned about that.

Some states are raising taxes to "provide health care coverage" and the feds are doing the same thing. However, it appears that they are going after the same population base for coverage - "children" and "the poor". Does this mean that these people will have double coverage?

The politicians don't need an excuse to raise taxes and spend more money - taking over your lives for you is just a bonus.
