David Gregory's not bad

I am not big for the Sunday morning talk shows, but I did turn on "Meet the Press" this morning while I was doing some laundry. Judging by today's performance, David Gregory's questions are sharper and more balanced than either of his immediate predecessors. Indeed, according to my ear it would be difficult to know Gregory's political leanings based on his questioning. The sad thing is that the appearance of genuine impartiality is so uncommon in mainstream media that it really stands out when you see it.

"I was doing some laundry"

I'm glad you gave the maids the day off.

No maid. We live well below our means, and have been doing so since before it was cool.

I'm with you, Tigerhawk, I've been doing my own laundry since I was a teenager. I have help three days a week in the house to assist me in looking after my 93 year-old father, and I confess that these nice ladies will do the fluff-and-fold thing without me asking, but I always initiate the laundry.

Well. Hmmm. I think we've officially hit rock bottom here on this blog in terms of the interestingness of the posts.

In other words, the children of some poor, unemployed woman won't have the latest video games because you want to act like the Ebenezer Scrooge at home. Spread the wealth, TH. Hire maids. (French maids are fun.) Hire a chauffeur.

French maids are fun.

Even if Mrs. TH would go for that, Daniel would no doubt give me grief.

Back to the point at hand, when you say David Gregory's two predecessors are you including Tim Russert as one of those predecessors? If so, I still have some scar tissue from Gregory's regular handling of G.W. Bush. I guess one can become a journalist again once their guy is in place?

Last year I happened to be in the same small hotel as David Gregory and Chris Wallace, for a week at spring vacation. It was at an island with direct flight service from DC, a rarity these days as any seasoned traveler can tell you, which is why these guys were both slumming with us middle class types. Wallace is a likable, intelligent guy with a quirky sense of humor and no discernible politics. Gregory has an ego the size of Texas, he's a liberal cynic, and his wife is a bit of a snob. Other than those snarky little pieces of gossip I have nothing to say about their respective professional qualities.
