An American car I might buy
The Taurus SHO is coming back. This is great news for those of us who had given up on the American automobile industry. I drove a SHO in the late 1990s; it went like hell. I loved that Ford had skinned so much performance in what was then a dowdy family car design. The car was, in that sense, sneaky and unexpected. That Ford has the brains to bring back the mark on what appears to be a powerful new sports sedan is equally sneaky and unexpected. Is this some small evidence that Ford will be the last of the Detroit Three left standing? It certainly ought to be.

, atBut where's the Yamaha engine? That's what made the original so different.

May have been slick. BUT it was never accepted as a police car, despite a heavy push...

Mr. President,
You don't run everything just yet.
Detroit does 3 things well: pickups, SUVs, and muscle cars. You could make a case that the CAFE standards have brought them to the verge of bankruptcy - they are making Subarus fleet-wide in order to force their average mileage up and comply. But they make crappy Subarus, while Subaru does a really good job. Not one of the Subaru buyer-types I know would ever buy a Detroit car. Perhaps their executives are too hidebound and clodlike to transition to all SUVs-pickups-muscle all the time, but with CAFE we will never get the opportunity to see. They'll just keep building compliant crud until they are gone.

I liked the SHO too, but am skeptical about Ford's ability to bring it off again. especially without the Yamaha engine.
You actually deserve. and would be happier with, a low mileage 4 year old BMW M3. The dealership experience at P-ton BMW is reputed to be good, probably could not be worse than your local Ford guy.
Dont buy a new one, or one with I-drive. Get a 5-speed.
Why 4 year-old? After that, I think, is when they shipped all new cars with run-flat tires, to conserve the spare tire space. Aargh. They are expensive, hard to find, and stiff.

Was that the green station wagon? Didn't you trade that in for the Durango?
