Anti-Americanism with which I agree

Regular readers know that I am a "national greatness" conservative and rarely brook criticism of my country from foreigners who hold neither themselves nor the more corrupt, violent, unproductive, or incompetent peoples of the world to the same standard.

That said, this is one anti-American screed with which I agree whole-heartedly.

I blame Martha Stewart. And anyone who would intentionally shell out $ for Cookie magazine. ("Stylish," b/t/w, is code for "affluent.")

But don't fret too much -- a nice recession should whip things back into line.

So poor Guy Ritchie marries Madonna and is then disappointed by the absence of "an ordinary family life"? That's rich. One supposes next he'll marry Michele Obama and complain about . . . the complaining.

Silly twaddle.

While I concur that many if not most American kids are pampered, spoiled little twats, the 'English benign neglect' that the author pines for has produced what is considered the worst environment for children in the western world. They have the lead in violent crime, incarceration, drunkenness, and depression.

For example: British Teens Run Wild in Streets

Pfft, my parents are from India, Americans pampering their kids is nothing!

Except, it's weird, you are pampered in some ways, but, in other ways you are pushed very hard. Like, you can run around like little hooligans when you are at a party and stay up late and no-one cares about bedtime, but, you have to do your homework, the homework of the kid next to you, all the extra credit homework, and then some homework your parents made up just for good measure.

Okay, I made that last part up about the homework. Not far off, though.
