Sarah Palin Sexism Watch

A new blog tracks the sexist media coverage of Sarah Palin and her candidacy. Scroll the main page.

It is going on the blogroll below under "specialty blogs," because there is no evidence that it is limiting its coverage to leftist attacks on Palin.

MORE: Among its posts is this, which includes a link to a "pregnancy timeline" in Vanity Fair, which includes an actual reader poll on the parentage of Trig Palin.

On the small chance that we need more evidence that the liberal establishment -- which is absolutely exemplified by Vanity Fair's editor-in-chief, Graydon Carter -- has completely lost its collective mind over the Palin nomination, this would be it.

This saddens me, because as much as I dislike the politics in Vanity Fair, I very much enjoyed other aspects of that magazine. Now I can never buy it again.

I do not agree with her politics, but I absolutely support her right to run for high office, make important decisions about her family, her body, and her career, without being denied those rights by either the government or public opinion. There is plenty of substance to debate about what she brings and does not bring to the Republican ticket without resorting to sexist backlash.

I'm not sure about the Vanity Fair piece...

I think anyone who is hearing of the "scandal" for the first time, reading that timeline, would be laughing at the ludicrous assertions on the right side of the line before they got half-way down.

Start with the National Enquirer being named prominently at the top of the right-hand column. Continue through the "Johnston impregnated Bristol while she was already pregnant!!"

Also, it refers to the two versions as "the official narrative" and "the wingnut conspiracy theories". Leaving aside the grossly ignorant usage of "wingnut" when they mean to write "moonbat" -- and it's pretty clear which one the author believes to be more plausible.

On the other hand, the comments and the poll results are pretty atrocious.

Vanity Fair is off the reading list. It's too bad, some of their articles were good.

Wait,

You have to stop reading it altogether because of this one thing? I guess that's a difference b/w conservatives and liberal? I'm willing to see something I disagree with and continue to look for truth in other areas of almost any publication.

Maybe it's the 'not wanting to spend my dollars to support' argument? I can't know.

Either way, as a liberal feminist, I'm thrilled to see Republicans suddenly interested in sexism and how it pervades our culture. The gender spectrum can get fairly complicated, so keep your minds open. Supporting a woman for Veep doesn't automatically make you a feminist any more than opposing a woman for President would have made you sexist.

Interesting days.

Rather obvious, I would think. I'd also think those who purport to be feminists would be the first to defend Sarah Palin against the slanders sent her way courtesy of some, ahem, liberals.

Yes, interesting days.

The only way for these rags (US, VF) to restore themselves is to feature Palin on the cover presented in a positive light.

Either way, the nuts will still assert that there's no liberal media, and that Fox is really the outlet that isn't fair and balanced.

These people are sick. They can't even seem to answer why the hoax would occur (other than it fits with their stereotypical views of how Christians might react to such news). Every dispute in their time line, every logical argument against their conspiracy, adds another layer to the elaborate story. Pregnancy suit? doctored pictures?

Here's a thought: Maybe since it was her fifth child, she might have know what she was doing. Might have just decided that she wanted to give birth in her own hospital, with her own doctors who were familiar with her and her child. Shocking I know, the idea that you might want to go to your own hospital.

I have to admit though: If this story was true. The hell with electing her to VP, make her the head of the CIA.

Heh. Just saw this.

Remember all that righteous indignation about how Biden was only worth $150k? Turns out that was a bunch of bunk. (surprise!)

Giving props to Kos as a source pretty much demolishes VF's credibility.
