Australian metal

I have not been near a television set for more than two nights since the Olympics started, so I have followed the games only by glances at the sports pages or headlines on the Yahoo home page. I, for one, was therefore stunned to see that as of this morning our great ally Australia ranked fourth in the total medal count behind the United States, China, and Russia. Given the massive population disparity between Australia and those three behemoths, that is really an amazing national accomplishment. Au-some!

on to the track and field events ... not seeing a lot of aussies in those events, but they are certainly super strong in the swimming events.

Australian metal? Or medal? Or mettle?

Hmm...

Love the Aussies in general, but too bad their ignorant gymnnastics judge cost Nastia a gold medal the other night.

One more example of why any athletic competition that is decided by judges may be excellent athletics, but is not a sport.

My heart goes out for the Ausome Oz competitors. They have heart and a great team to boot and they don't have to use underagers and fraud to get their medals unlike some host country that shall remain nameless.

Anyone generating a ranking based on medals per 100,000 citizens?
