Al Gore for Veep?

This seems like an extremely bad idea. Barack Obama's greatest strength is that it very difficult for his opponents to lay a glove on him. His past is relatively clean (various clerical and Chicago-oriented kerfuffles notwithstanding), and in any case the press has formed an almost impervious cordon sanitaire around him. Gore, on the other hand, has built up a long list of specific statements and actions that make him both attackable and mockable. Why would the Imperfect Vessel want to take on that kind of baggage?

Well, if electing Obama would be "atonement" for slavery, electing Gore would be "atonement" for the "stolen" 2000 election. Sounds like the feel good ticket from hell.

I think it would be more accurate to describe Obama's past as "pristine" (untouched, unused, in "like-new condition") rather than "clean."
