One man's heritage is another man's scrap
Lining the lovely Georgian buildings of my son's school, there are gutters and downspouts made of precious metal.

, atI don't think of this as a "theft", I think of it more along the lines of an informal "tax", citing Robin Hood as an historical justification.

This is old news in the city. Everything on the exterior is plastic now. The vacant house in my block was looted for everything that was nailed down. They pried up the hardwood floors to extract the copper pipes. Myself, I would have kept the old oak. Is copper really that dear?
, atAs a resident of Detroit you're lucky if they just steal your copper gutters. They steal the pipes out of your house, the Aluminium Siding off your house and the copper wire that supplies electricity to your house. Unfortunatly they theives dont always know to cut the power before they grab the wire. Many a copper theif has ended up a naked smoking lump in the street.
, atSorry about the errors on that post. I'm not stupid just too lazy to proof read.

Still, it does suck to have some rat swiping the copper downspouts. I'm thinking about adding copper gutters to my house. God help the dog who tries to steal them if I'm around.
... for the sucker who gets himself fried stealing wire, I'd just point out that Darwin was right. There's a number of news stories out of Ohio about what happens when houses go to foreclosure (and are vacant). Virtually everything is looted down to the studs ... doors, windows, siding, copper pipe, wire, you name it.
Pathetic that it could happen without police intervention.

I didn't - my son does.
I'm an Exie, oddly enough.
