Linkage

Three items bearing no relation to each other:

Power Line, on why conservatives ought to vote for and contribute to John McCain without reservation.

Richard Fernandez, on the disappearance and repackaging of Moqtada al-Sadr, which has everything to do with Iran's ambition to control Iraq.

Richard again, on Iran openly and notoriously putting out a contract for the assassination of Israel's leaders. He has interesting things to say about the trade-offs between firepower and intelligence, a topic that I addressed at some length here.

Again, why not divert yourself from your usual morning cup of wingnut cereal (that would make a great Saturday Night Live skit) and talk about other things. Might I suggest a review of That Mean Old Yesterday, by Stacey Patton (zounds...a Lawrenceville grad!)--a memoir and indictment of NJ's foster care system. Took place in ol' Mercer County, in Trenton and even a few scenes in Princeton.

I'm sorry it doesn't have anything do with Hugo Chavez or Iran or Israel but it's a good read. Might even bring you back to earth. Can't say the same for your disciples, however. ;-)

Chris, I don't know how to break it to you, but this blog neither covers all the news that is fit to print nor many issues of great and topical moment. Here's how it works: When I or one of our co-bloggers get a minute away from working monster hours making a massively outsized contribution to the planet's economy, we write about things that we find interesting or amusing. Indeed, speaking only for myself, I barely scratch the surface of the things that I find interesting or amusing. What we do not do, however, is run this blog to generate any particular external result, such as more votes for a particular candidate or policy. Not our thing, even if we have overlapping and even congruent political opinions, and even if we advocate for or against -- most often against -- particular candidates from time to time.

So, no, I am not ashamed to admit that I do not give a rat's ass about New Jersey's foster care system, along with hyperinflation in Zimbabwe, the current "American Idol," or (for that matter) the fate of the black-footed ferret. I care about far more issues than most people, but those are three of the many I do not care about.

Er, four.

I don't like McCain all that much, but hell, if you're anywhere right of center, who else can you vote for?

I might support Obama, if he'd heel that Rezko guy aside and let me in on a sweetheart deal for the East Lawn. I could lease it back to the USG for sweet returns, no?

As for Iran ... still waiting for us to accidently drop a payload on Tehran. It's been coming for 30+ years. That, or just loan the Israelis one of our UFOs for a test drive ... if they inadvertently fly over Iran and let the sparks fly, who are we to beef, as long as they return it without damage?

Richard again, on Iran openly and notoriously putting out a contract for the assassination of Israel's leaders.

I think Richard misled you by saying that "Teheran put a public contract on Israeli defense officials." The article says the contract was put out by "an announcement from a radical organization called the 'Islamic Student Justice Seekers.'" I can't guarantee you this group doesn't sit close to the halls of Iranian power but it sure doesn't sound like it. It sounds like Louis Farrakhan put out something and the Iranian blogs reported it as "Out of Washington today, a bigoted attack..."

The stuff he had about granularity was interesting, though.
