The dumpling jihad and Chinese justice
Much has been made of recent reports that the United States has imprisoned a larger proportion of its population than the People's Republic of China. There are arguments over the statistics -- does anybody really trust Commie government reports? -- but it is still a factoid over which American ought to reflect. Particularly those Americans who still support the "war on drugs" and sentencing guidelines that tie the hands of judges.
That said, I thought this brief Associated Press story about Chinese counterterrorism operations was more than a little revealing:
Police captured and killed alleged terrorists plotting attacks targeting this year's Beijing Olympics, a Chinese official said Sunday...
China has been fighting a simmering insurgency amongst Muslim separatists from the Xinjiang region's Uighur population.
Captured and killed?

"Captured and killed."
So much for due process of law.

Actually, Nancy, I believe that is what constitutes due process of law in a police state.
, at'Captured and killed'. Would that not help explain why China might have a lower percentage of prison population than US?

Absolutely, feeblemind...
And is anyone truly surprised by this report? China is a police state, after all.

Prisoners in a Communistic country are only kept around if they meet certain qualifications. Too Important To Kill, Too Insignificant To Kill, Too Useful to Kill, and Can Get Useful Work Out Of Before Killing. Or the Western translations of Political Prisoner, Petty Criminal, Captured Spies to be Traded, and Slave Labor.
Strange how our Liberals have a blind spot to their favorite Communist dictators preference for 9mm vs 9yrs.
