Thought experiment

So, in the last Democratic debate Barack Obama referred to the "president of Canada." Joe Biden subtly corrected him:

And just in case anybody missed Obama’s slip, Senator Joe Biden noted, “Hey, look, the president’s job is to create jobs, not to export jobs. And the idea that we are not willing to take the prime minister of Canada and the president of Mexico to the mat to make this agreement work is just a lack of presidential leadership. I would lead. I would do that. I would change it.”

Here's a thought experiment for you: If a Republican had slipped up that way, imagine the reaction from everybody from Jay Leno to Chris Matthews over the next couple of news cycles.

(By the way, Joe Biden's idea that "the president's job is to create jobs" -- entirely uncontroversial on the left -- explains rather forcefully why I am not a Democrat. It is my job to create jobs. It is the president's job to stay out of my way and perhaps even plow the road in front of me while I do it.)

TH: I sit back you and your commenters spew the most specious and insane fascist drivel...but ain't I still you're friend? LOL Give Obama a break. He went to harvard for crying out loud and you know the hardest thing about that place is getting in. Plus I don't think anyone would have given a crap if a GOP candidate said something like "the president of Canada." They say inane sh*t like that all the time (you can fill a DVD with Dubya's...one of the latest being that we mst stay the course in Iraq b/c that's these are the same folks who attacked us on 9-11...funny I thought they were Saudi Arabia, our "ally.").

Besides...seriously...does regular citizen here truly know or care who runs Canada? Now THAT's the kind of comment that would raisecheers if Sean Hannity said it...hehehehe

PS TH: it isn't your job to create jobs. It's your job to keep your big shareholders happy and collect your bonus. If there're any jobs for regular American folk made in as a byproduct of that process, well that's gravy.

PPS--here are some other "President of Canada" comments I found just today. Enjoy.

"'Let's raise the stakes,' the 31-year-old 50 Cent told hip-hop Web site SOHH.com in an interview posted Friday. 'If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, he'll no longer write music. IHe'll write music and work with my other artists, but he won't put out anymore solo albums.'" Note how he refers to himself in 3rd person. And he doesn't write "music." (compliments of Mike Gonzales, Vibe magazine)

"'You should not consider this as an adverse action,' letters to the officers say. 'This document will not be filed in any system of records maintained by the Army.'"

--AP report on the limp wrist letters of "reprimand" issued by the Army in the wake of the Pat Tillman Big Lie.

"Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani said Friday that he misspoke when he said he spent as much time, if not more, at ground zero exposed to the same health risks as workers combing the site after the Sept. 11 attacks. 'I think I could have said it better,' he told nationally syndicated radio host Mike Gallagher."

Mayor Mikey Bloomberg's got awhole file of misspeaks ready for Rudi

Have a nice balance of the summer...
