Shooting stars

If the sky is clear and it is night where you live, run outside, lie down in the grass, and watch the Perseid meteor shower. We are in a thinly-populated corner of Martha's Vinyard, and the stars, shooting and otherwise, are astonishing.

No, I think it's the Wife Wake Hubby Up At 4AM and Watch The Clouds shower. Least that was our house. *yawn*

Total bummer. I was going to take my 40' Mainship (aka "home") out past the reefs and drop the hook out in the big blue ocean, far from the lights of civilization, but the sky became real overcast in the afternoon and never did clear up.

For any of you who missed the event, there's another shower next month. More info here.

Watched from the mountains near Tolland, CO, but only saw about seven. My meteor viewing companion only saw two, though -- he did not have a good command of the viewing technique (staring at one uninteresting spot in the sky with unfocused eyes, so that any movement automatically attracts the eye).
