There be eagles!
As most of you know, we are at our family place in the Adirondack mountains in upstate New York, a few miles north of Tupper Lake. I took these photographs less than two hours ago, less than 100 yards from our camp. I like to think that they know a patriotic house when they see one.

No doubt they are basking in the reassuring knowledge of just having been de-listed!

A few years ago I spent a week in Maine, "birding." A highlght was sitting on the edge of a tidal marsh, watching the dynamics as various birds feasted in the receding tidal pool as an eagle or two watched from a tree. The eagles occasionally would take flight, and as the soared above all the bird activity below, there would be a reaction (as in, uh oh!). My group left and returned later to find a huge pile of feathers sitting on a rock -- we think it was a seagull. Eagles need to eat, too!
Magnificent birds. I'm happy that the bald eagle won out over the turkey as our national bird.
