Our grandmother would have been 100 today

Esther Gracie Ogden was came into this world on April 12, 1907, the third of five children. If that hadn't happened, neither me nor Charlottesvillain would be here, and regular commenter GreenmanTim -- who was also born on April 12 and who graciously supplied the pictures in this post -- would have been shy one great aunt. For those of you keeping score at home, my grandmother is the girl on the left, and GreenmanTim's is the cutie pie on the right. That's how they looked in 1913, still one year before the guns of August blew away the world as it had been since Napoleon. She died in late 2000 at age 93.

It is much too late for me to write about my grandmother with any meaning, and I have to get up early tomorrow morning. Suffice it to say that we loved our grandmother very much, and that her wonderful influence on our family and her world has now extended for more than 100 years.

I see a resemblance to Neeltje there...

Aunt Esther, your Grandmother, was a treasure and she and I were very pleased to share the same date of birth. As the successor to our archivist Great Aunt Margie (b.1905), family genealogist extraordinaire and the eldest of the five in that 1913 photograph, I am compelled to correct the record in one minor respect. Esther was actually the 2nd Ogden child, followed by Archie (1909), Athalia (1911) and Dayton (1913).

And CP, I'd agree that Neeltjie does indeed take after her grandmother, in many marvelous respects.

That's a good looking family. With genes like that, TH and GT should be male models appearing in a Brooks Brothers catalog. What happened, too much beer?

Speaking of Beer, how's the weight-loss going, TH?

The weight-loss is not going well so far, and beer is certainly part of the problem. It really is quite humiliating.

We all looked great when we were six. Though I understand the"heavyset" look is in for Brook Brother's models this year. So long as they look like Jack Black, which I happen to do...

A woman in one of our local communities just turned 100 today

TH.
There is an age related decline in DHEA, an asexual hormone used differently in the male and female.
It alters fat metabolism and storage, (among other things)and over time, liver enzymes.
Man, are you ageing prematurely due to pressures and working hours <:-) ?
Hope not "cos I enjoy this blog.
Considering a life-style change myself in about 2 to 3 years. Things are not rosey here.

BTW, FYI, TH.
Alcohol retards, and sometimes reverses the developement and recruitment of type 2b fibres. Fibres that you work with the weights. Over a period of time the difference is very dramatic!
I was once involved in the nutritional study of a certain, semi elite, rugby team.
I withdrew when the results showed that 27% of weekly calories were imbibed at the weekend "piss-up", a social event that no pressure, of whatever sort, could alter.
