On may way to Guadalajara...

Yes, I am about to board a plane for Mexico's second city and, yes, I am going to be staying at a hotel once graced by Fidel Castro.

Subject to internet access, I'll report more later.

Meanwhile, read Wretchard on the Howard-Obama cage match.

I see Captain Ed's point, and I am perhaps not objective because I agree with Howard on this one. I am not yet willing to plead to that, however, given that when I reverse the situation, I recall European leaders making dismissive comments about Bush when he was a candidate.

As for BHO, he confirms my worst fears of his candidacy. He shows no courage whatsoever, sliding into what he believes is the popular slot for his presidential bid. In this case, his position is "Hey, let's not kick our enemies. Let's kick or friends instead." How such an approach would help him in coalition-building should he need to lead America into war escapes me.

Oh, silly me. If we elect people like Obama, we won't ever have wars again.

Yeah you are silly. Howard is a douchebag who will likely loose his job very soon. Obama will be visiting Sydney as president of the US, and success will be the best revenge. And you know what--Obama's the kind of guy would atually try to sit down and discuss issues with right bloggers who just seem to spew on command. Now, I'm not one of these turn the other cheek types, but hey, I admire him for that.

I guess you guys gotta have your targets and strawmen, otherwise what would you with yourselves? ;-)

The Camino Real is rather posh, speaking from personal experience ... no wonder Fidel stayed there. Brunch at the hotel is apparently fabulous. Anyway, be sure to have a torta ahogada while here.

As for Howard, don't write him off just yet. He's arguably been the most successful politician in the English-speaking world over the past decade. There's a reason the Conservative Party of Canada called on Australian advisors last year - and later won.
