The New York Post reads TigerHawk: More on dissing John Edwards

The New York Post reads TigerHawk!

Or did on at least one occasion.

Sunday evening I received an email from a long-standing TigerHawk reader who lives near John Edwards' new estate just outside Chapel Hill. He emailed me photographs of the sign that one of Edwards' neighbors had put up on a fence just across the road from the Aspirant's driveway. I posted one of them along with some background information, and bathed in the traffic from Michelle Malkin's blog, among others.

Well, the Post picked up the story this morning.

A Rudy Giuliani fan is tormenting rival White House candidate John Edwards - with a "Go Rudy" sign on his own fence just 100 feet from the Democrat's palatial and controversial North Carolina compound.

Edwards' "home is a monster. It's way over the top," said neighbor Monty Johnson, who planted a "Go Rudy Giuliani 2008" sign near Edwards' driveway.

If I were a petty man, I and my anonymous source would be bitter that the Post did not acknowledge whence this story came. However, filled as I am with the milk of human kindness, I am merely delighted to have participated in a small but entertaining national political story.

There is no doubt that my post and my source's picture broke the "good fences" story. The next work on the story, though, came from a professional journalist working for a big city newspaper. This episode is but one small illustration of the power and limitations of amateur networked journalism, and of the emerging symbiosis between the blogosphere and mainstream media.

UPDATE: A helpful commenter reports that the Raleigh News & Observer had the story of the "Go Rudy" sign on January 28. I did not know that! But it didn't have our exclusive photojournalism!

Well ... better to remain anonymous on originating pix than deal with the neighbors who support this fraud. However, it is petty that the Post couldn't at least "mention" TH, or Michelle, or someone who'd map additional traffic to the site.

Love the phrase "filled as I am with the milk of human kindness"

Raises a question: With what is your fellow blogger Amanda Marcotte filled?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the "good fences" story was broken by the Raleigh News & Observer on January 28th. See this link: http://www.newsobserver.com/643/story/537175-p2.html.

I'm not sure what you think they should acknowledge. Assuming it was your item that caught their attention, they clearly went farther than you to get the story and I don't see any aping of your language.

We have all seen some pretty egregious examples the past few years of the MSM stealing from bloggers, but this compaint strikes me as gratuitous bashing of the conventional media.

I'm not really complaining -- I pretty much meant what I said. It's fun and interesting more than anything else.

Thanks also for the link to the Raleigh News & Observer -- I'll check it out.

If you click on the "More Photos" link at the News & Observer story, you will see a photo of Monty Johnson standing in front of the Go Rudy fence. Your photo better shows the juxtaposition of the driveways.

Thank you so very much for breaking this terrifically important national news story. It is bloggers like you that keep citizens everywhere informed on the issues that most affect our day-to-day lives.

I'm eagerly awaiting your reportage on what kind of domestic pets those nefarious Democratic nominees favor. It's stories like this that only dedicated, partisan bloggers can bring to the masses.

Oh, and bathing in eyeballs from Michelle Malkin's blog! I bet the MSM is every shade of green with envy! Congrats, Tigerhawk, this is exactly the kind of appreciation your diligence deserves.

Locals busting Johnny in his smug fraud face are fun and blog worthy. You won't see the MSM talking about the fact that this guy talks about poor people and the "two Americas" like he actually has first hand knowledge, while living like a fat rat. Edwards leads some program and UNC-CH about poverty, as if he knows anything about it. He's also the clown who I'm told moved from Raleigh after becoming persona non grata for suing too many people. It's a small place down here, and people are connected to one another. After awhile, your neighbors learn to know you best, and this guy knows Edwards like the rest of the Carolinas knew him in 2004. It's only Yankees who thought they were running some "good ol' boy" that the Southerners would rally behind.

So in that respect, I think it is "important" that bloggers can call public figures like this for what they are. As for the MSM being green ... I think you delude yourself. More and more the 'net is the medium for reaching voters, and more and more of us are turning to the internet to find smart people who analyze the garbage and spin foisted upon us on TV and in print.

I'm wondering if you saw the piece this week about Johnny firing his bloggers who were supposed to be talking him up?

I'm told weasels and snakes are popular.
