The case for Rudy Giuliani

Andy McCarthy makes the case that conservatives should support Rudy Giuliani for President. It's a strong one.

I would vote for him, but I wonder if the situation he had with his wife right before 9/11 will come back to haunt him.

Would be a shame, but in politics, you never know.

I don't know anything about Giuliani's "situation" with his wife - not for sure anyway.

Everything I need to know about Rudy I learned the day he handed back the check for $10MM to a Saudi who tried to tie America's alliance with Israel to the attacks of 9/11.

Everything else anybody needs to know about Rudy can be found by examining the budget, economic and crime stats in NYC the day before he became mayor and the day he left office.

As Lincoln said when they told him that Grant had personal shortcomings, "Grant knows how to fight."

It'll be awesome if Hillary Clinton gets the Democratic nomination to go against Rudy. It will provide daily reminders that Americans are perfectly willing to elect a cad for president.

Guiliani would be a great President. Like Bush he will do what's best for the US, not what the Leftstream media, UN, and select Europeans think is best. Unlike Bush he wouldn't sit back and do nothing for months and years as the loony Left tried to tear down his presidency. The Leftstream media knows this and is going to come after him as hard as they are rooting for Obama.

Yea, Bill was pretty repulsive morally.

McCarthy loves the tough-guy authoritarian types.

Other than that, Bush and Rudy have little in common. I hope he gets the nomination.

I think Guiliani would be a fine president, though he does have some "weirdness" issues and he's had some less-than-conservative views. But I think that like 2004, 2008 will be about one thing: security. I like that Guiliani was a U.S. Attorney and took on the mafia... he knows how to deal with terrorist thugs, and he'll continue taking the fight to them.

Rudy can be tough and uncompromising; he’s a pit bull.

Or at least he was. My biggest fear is that Rudy’s brush with death (after his cancer scare) may have softened him. I don’t see the stern Christian Brother (Bishop Laughlin High School) posture anymore. Also, he’s gotten as taste of popularity in the wake of 9/11; this may have turned him into a seeker of affection rather than a seeker of respect.

But if he is the same abrasive … I mean tough … Rudy that I remember, he’ll make a fine war time president. The British had their bulldog (Churchill); we need our pit bull.

The single best reason for Guiliani to win the Republican nomination: He can carry New York.

I really hope it comes down to Obama and Hillary in the Dems. primary.

It will be fun watching the libs. trying to decide if they should vote for a woman or a black guy. I think the pressure will make their heads explode.
