Cars

I've just enjoyed 2 weeks away from work, blogging and generally, the world. Spent them with my wife and kids, did a lot of bike riding and running to clear the mind, and engaged in one of my hobbies, which relates to my interest in cars.

Just added to the driveway -- a brand new Ford Shelby Mustang GT 500. The Cobra. 475 horsepower stock, without modifications (which are available with Ford parts and can drive power upwards of 550hp). Manual 6 speed transmission. Sticker - $48,000.

This car is explosive. It is a 2007 version of Eleanor -- think Steve McQueen or Nicholas Cage. But steering and suspension are infinitely better than the 1967 concoction.

We give American car companies lots of static, for good reason on most occasions. They have been poorly managed. They have an impossible set of labor related liabilities to overcome. They have many silly, undesirable and unprofitable models.

But this Mustang rocks. There is no better value in the automotive market than this car. Of course, to be fair, the market knows this, and is paying more than sticker for it. Even so, if you can get your hands on one, or even a less explosive GT, go for it. It is spectacular.

I hate you. My first car was a '69 with a 351 Windsor, headers and no choke. My second car was a '70 Mach 1 with a Cleveland, complete with psuedo-Boss stripes. I hate you.

My first car was a Series IIA Landrover bakkie, circa 1967 and ex-South African Army issue, purchased in 1996 for $4,000 US. It went from 0-60 in...well, never, actually, but it went all over the Namib Desert and back of beyond in Southern Africa, on bald tires weeping oil all the way. Great car for a conservationist.

Gas-guzzling Gaia rapist!

In the spirit of redistribution, I demand that each Tigerhawk regular shall have a ride on the GT 500!
