Iraqi Kurdistan

This place is the best hope within Iraq for a sane and prosperous future. Read this mind-bending report by Michael Totten from his visit there. These people suffered unspeakable cruelty. I hope they put Saddam's execution on pay per view.

Sirius - I agree, our abandonment was atrociously dishonorable. But, you know, nobody else came either, and we did eventually. I think that's how Jews think of FDR too. True, he didn't fight WWII to save the Jews, but the result did save some.

What is fascinating is reading George W. Bush's second inauguration speech. In it, he specifically calls the abondonment of Iraq as dishonorable. Now he did it in the context of our current presence there, rather than talking about 1991. But the implicit message was about 1991, and his father's decision.

The Kurds are some really tough, really impressive folks. They deserve their shot you know. It's also encouraging to hear from Totten about the gap between the Iranian people and the mullahs. They've gotta go too.
