POW-MIA
Iraq has its own problems in this regard:
The report added that Iran, which is meant with regard to the issue of missing Iraqis and Iraqi prisoners of war, insists that it does not have any prisoners of war or missing Iraqis. It strongly denies their existence or registration at the competent institutions and organizations. During the work of these organizations for more than two years, search and investigation committees were created to identify the destiny of the missing Iraqis during the Iraqi-Iranian war, the first gulf war, and the last war on Iraq. The committees disclosed that there are thousands of Iraqi prisoners of war, who are still held at detention camps in Iran. Iranian authorities did not allow for registering them on behalf of the Red Cross, or releasing them, or admitting their existence. Iranian authorities place them at camps, which are remote from the eyes of the international Red Cross, and the competent humanitarian organizations and international committees.
The odds of there being Iraqi prisoners of war still alive in Iran are probably no greater than those of Americans still held in Indochina, even though much less time has elapsed since they disappeared.
