North Korea Stands Down?

Early reports suggest NK has acceded to the demands of the six parties with whom it is negotiating and will terminate nuclear weapons development in favor of an aid program. Of course, it is too early to tell whether this will work. But if it does, it will stand in marked contrast to the unsuccessful unilateral negotiations from 1994; it will further credentialize the current administration's tactical approach to foreign policy; and of course it will further discredit the prior administration's policy execution. It will also put another stake in the famed axis of evil, and free the US and its allies to concentrate its efforts, with Japanese and Chinese assistance, on Iran and Syria.

Let's watch developments carefully, and wonder what China and Japan must have agreed in the background to make this happen, with US assistance.
