The death toll in Louisiana
They've been searching for bodies in New Orleans since Friday, and the total confirmed deaths in Louisiana number 154, including hospital patients on life support who died when the power went off. We still don't know what lies under the waters, but it looks like Mayor Nagin's hysteria may have overestimated the human loss by a factor of 20 or more.

And somehow, misperception becomes reality. Take a poll of Americans right now- betcha 70% will say that 10,000 died.
