Dirty tricks in the Hawkeye State?

Automated calls have been coming into elderly Iowans' homes, apparently instructing them to press a couple of buttons on their phone to get connected to Republican Sen. Charles Grassley and protest the addition of personal accounts to Social Security.

But when the confused Iowans wind up speaking with Grassley's office in Washington, they're often angry and feel harassed because they think the senator is the one who has called them, Grassley's aides say....

No one, including the Iowa Democratic Party, will admit organizing the mysterious calls.

Calling up elderly Iowans and confusing them into thinking that Chuck Grassley is the source of the call is not cricket. I know that sort of thing happens all the time in places like New Jersey (the TigerHawk state of domicile), but it is not the way they play the game in Iowa. If the Republicans tricked old people into calling Tom Harkin's office to complain about, oh, calling the Vice President a "coward" and advocating the reinstatement of the draft, Democrats -- and the MSM -- would go wild.

Just sayin', is all.
