Soda, pop, or "cokes": the cartographer's answer

This map is a geographical reconstruction of answers to a survey that asked people what generic term they used for "soft drinks." The big blue area is "pop" country, the green of the northeast and elsewhere (the St. Louis area, for example, quite unaccountably) represents "soda" land. In the red South they just call everything "cokes". Not surprisingly.

Via DynamoBuzz, a great Jersey blog.

Hm, "other?"
Actually, I know a few people here in the upper-right who still use "tonic."
