Fatwas for felines

Apparently, it is harem -- meaning forbidden -- for a religious Muslim to declaw a cat.
Islam calls upon Muslims to fear Allah in everything including the animals. Islam also calls upon Muslims to be gentle and nice to everything and at all times even when they want to slaughter animals.

In this context, declawing a cat is a form of harming, oppressing, and depriving it from its rights of having claws, which it needs not to scratch your furniture but to scratch and defend itself.

Therefore, you should let your cat grow its claws and find other ways of protecting your furniture other than hurting or harming innocent and friendly animals like cats.

In perhaps a TigerHawk first, I'm with the mullahs on this one. We've had various cats in the TigerHawk household (generally named after hemorrhagic fevers, but that's another story), and have never declawed a one. They need the claws to whack the birds, chipmunks, and other vermin that come near.

Sissy? Over to you.

Ha! You're bound to get someone's dander up saying "They need the claws to whack the birds, chipmunks, and other vermin that come near." They don't really, unless you don't feed them. (Furthermore, I've seen a declawed cat bring down a bunny at a full run.)

The real reason cats need their claws, at least when venturing out of doors, is so they can defend themselves when they encounter other cats.

I am sure if you knew Islam better you would find many more things that you would readily agree with.
As a cat lover and proud owner (or slave) of an orange tabby, I abhor people who declaw cats.
