Do you speak Yankee or Dixie?

Take the test. I'm 52% Dixie, which sounds about right. I've never lived in the South, but I have a lot of southern family so it is perhaps not surprising that some Dixie seems to have crept into my speech.

I'm sure that we are all interested to find out how Charlottesvillain scores...

CWCID: Cassandra.

46% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

I guess that's about right - even though I'm a seven-year Texan, I lived in Ohio for 20 years. Some habits die hard.

My daughter, who was 2 when we left Ohio, would probably score quite differently.

I scored a 52% Dixie as well, a confluence of my midwestern upbringing, northeastern education, adulthood, and wife, with some southern influences thrown in. Not a big surprise. (I have lived south of the Mason-Dixon less than a year after all, and in a town filled with transplants).

81% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate ancestors?

That's me!

We do indeed have Confederate ancestors. My great-great-grandfather, who arrived from Germany in 1856, settled in Spartenburg. He fought for the Confederacy and was wounded. Went back to Spartenburg and became a pillar of the community there, and eventually mayor. He was assassinated(!) in 1891.

Someday I may blog on the subject.

Jack, don't forget Colonel Robert T. Hubard, whose monument can be found in the family plot.

Sorry, you guys, but if I'm 55% Dixie (100% Southern California Valley Girl, with Midwestern parents, all school in California and now living in Chicago for 20+ years), then I think what this test measures is lack of Yankee-isms -- MCU

I think this test is crap.
I got a 61% Dixie score with most of the results claiming to be nationwide or in the northeast or Great Lakes region, and only two results that were both nationwide and south-eastern.
There's no way that adds up to 61% southern.
BTW, I was born in a little town almost half way between Detroit and Cleveland, and sound a lot like my mother and grandmother who both grew up there.
