David Leip's Atlas of Presidential Elections

A friend of mine alerted me to this fascinating site. If you click on "election results," you can plug in any presidential election and display a series of maps color-coded by party, proportion of the popular vote, electoral vote, and so forth. There are some data going back to the election of 1789 (the first election was the only election in an odd-numbered year), and for recent decades you can look at "red and blue America" by county as well as by state. The county maps are particularly instructive -- compare, for example, the county-by-county voting maps for the election of 1980 (Reagan v. Carter) with the election of 2000. This is a great site worth bookmarking for this election year. I'll make it a permanent fixture in the "links" listing on TigerHawk so that you can find it easily!
