Unused Commentary for The Fellowship of The Ring
By, of all people, Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn. This
is amazingly funny. Just read like four or five paragraphs in.
I am glad you posted this; I thought I was the only one who read it. :)
This I love:
"Chomsky: But without the pipe-weed, Middle Earth would fall apart. Saruman is trying to break up Gandalf’s pipe-weed ring. He’s trying to divert it.
"Zinn: Well, you know, it would be manifestly difficult to believe in magic rings unless everyone was high on pipe-weed. So it is in Gandalf’s interest to keep Middle Earth hooked."
I believe that Jeff Alexander and Tom Bissell have far too much spare time.
Brilliant. Related: http://assistantvillageidiot.blogspot.com/2006/10/why-did-chicken-cross-road.html
I loved that. I go back and read it every so often (not too often: I work in academia and I can hear much like it every day, if I care to do).
Never seen this before, but I loved it. Thanks for sharing!
