Holder looks like a lightweight in no matter what situation he is. That said, I think your blogger friend Coyote had some interesting things to say about the actual crime situation regarding illegals in AZ, which was not (surprise, surprise) the situation one might believe reading inflammatory press. Wish I had the links but some good perspective there from someone who lives in the state.

As you probably know, BG, Coyote had the best undergraduate education attainable.

What, Coyote is a Grinnell grad?

Separately, and back on topic, it's too bad incompetence isn't an impeachable offense in today's Congress.

Our Federal Government has refused to enforce it's own immigration laws for generations and now we are left with the problems that has caused. To add insult to injury, they won't even tell us why they are not enforcing the law.

Coyote is often good, but he's sometimes too doctrinaire a libertarian and he doesn't get Macro.

I agree with Coyote that illegal immigrant crime gets exaggerated and that Sheriff Joe is out-of-control.

But Coyote thinks controlled borders are an affront to the free mobility of labor. This little “l” libertarian instead believes that a nation that can’t secure its own borders won’t be a nation for long.

We don’t have an illegal immigrant problem -- We have an illegal Mexican immigrant problem in our border states. It wouldn’t be hard to address this with just a modicum of political will and some co-operation between the Feds and our border states.

Illegal immigration from Mexico is a particular problem because we have a social welfare state. It makes legal Americans more expensive to hire and illegals that much cheaper to use. A lot of the resulting burden for healthcare and schools falls on border state governments – it’s pushing them to a breaking point. Because of their numbers, illegals also bring cultural identity challenges to many border state communities – this isn’t a small issue.

I’m a child of immigrants, but I don’t see this as “I’m aboard, so pull up the ladder.” Quite the contrary.

Mexico could become a failed state, in which case we’ll see a tsunami of illegals. This possibility isn’t high-up on my list of Debacles Waiting To Happen, but it does make my Top 25. Rumsfeld would call it a “known unknown” – but I doubt the Feds could handle it were it to happen. The Feds are generally fucking useless at handling even “known unknowns,” as they prove time and again.

I saw Machete yesterday -- I recommend it as a thoughtful commentary on illegal Mexican immigration.

“… the best undergraduate education attainable.” You mean the College of New Jersey ?

I've said this before and it bears repeating.

Illegal immgration will stop of it's own accord, when living and working here is worse than living and working there.

That is what the open borders crowd wants to happen.
