In which I (slightly) defend Barack Obama

The righty blogosphere thinks that Barack Obama is not setting a good example -- carbon-footprint wise -- by spending his Christmas vacation in Hawaii. True enough, but in the spirit of the season I'm willing to cut the president a break on this one. He did, after all, grow up there. It is not just a "tropical island trip" for him, it is going home. I'm not such a churl that I can begrudge him that at Christmas, even if he is generally a hypocritical carbon big-foot.

I don't have a problem with "carbon footprint" which I think is BS to begin with, so I don't begrudge anyone's vacation, or going "home".

My problem is that the economy is in shambles, the country is at war, the world is more dangerous, the world monetary system showing signs of serious collapse. And the leader of the free world goes as far as Washington D.C. as possible while still being in the U.S.

It is like the guy is running away from an avalanch of problems. I work in SALES and I basically took about 20 hours off from work this holiday season, things are so bad and serious. I would think the leader of the Free World would stick to Washington and do a nice dinner in Camp David and go back.

Yeah, that would be the childhood (from 8 years to 17 years old) spent more with Frank Marshall Davis than with his family. That would be the Communist and author of "Sex Rebel" Frank Marshall Davis that Stanley Dunham turned him over to for mentoring. Yeah, I'm really glad Obama spent all that fuel traveling back to that place.

It is roughly a million times cheaper to send Barak Obama *anywhere* and put him up in the most expensive housing available, than it is to leave him in Washington with his buddies.

Please, Mr. Obama. Feel free to spend as long in Hawaii as you want.

Perhaps he should have gone to Kenya...he certainly has more relatives there.

I'm just happy he's AWAY.

The Western WhiteHouse is just a little farther west these days. Nothing more.

Good on him.

Didn't he make some comment about "shared sacrifice" shortly after taking office?

When can we expect to see some leading-by-example, do you think?

Tigerhawk, Obama flying to Hawaii has nothing to do with growing up there. He wanted to get out of DC after the historic vote on Obamacare. That way he can deny all of his promises that legislation would be online for everyone to review; deny that he cut deals behind closed doors as he said he wouldn't; deny that he made deals with lobbyists as he said he wouldn't and so on. He rubs our noses in the dirt to show that he controls the greatest crime syndicate in the world.

Alanstorm also pointed out the two faced leadership that Obama presents. Do as I say, not as I do.

The Althouse Woman is not part of the righty blogosphere. I'm one of her commenters, and can be classified as a rightwingnut. She is a Liberal. Oftentimes, she'll post something that can probably be classified as rightwing, but that's only to get her commenters to sound off. She appears to be interested in seeing what her commenters reactions will be.

I posted a bunch of comments on that Althouse blog post re: the carbon footprint that our POTUS is laying down with his trip to Hawaii. I personally don't care if he and the entire Congress take a trip to Borneo for several months. As another commenter suggested, we'd all be much better off financially if they did. That said, the Left's willingness to try to control OUR lives with their pro-Gaia totalitarianism while they live THEIR lives without regard for the environment is no better than Soviet-era apparatchiks who built magnificent dachas while the people of Ukraine made rock soup.

It's the same instinct from people of the same political persuasion.
