It is hard not to notice the rash of suicides at France Telecom
. FT is a company the government has supported over the years and is currently engaged in a pain-sharing exercise to preserve employment. Three things are going on here-
1) the depressing effect of large bureaucracies
2) the suicide-contagion/imitation effect Malcolm Gladwell documented in "The Tipping Point"
3) the futility of such pain-sharing exercises
Very interesting. I'll return to this at some point later, I think.
Youth unemployment hit a post war high, according to the NYPost. I would love to see pain-sharing by members of Congress.
4) The depressing effect of working in France and supporting a half-dozen who don't.
If its a rash, won't French socialized medicine cover it?
You must be a real hoot at parties, George
