Blowhard watch: The Democrats could have saved Jack Kemp?

Much as I believe that the Republicans will need to broaden their appeal in order to win elections, whatever misgivings I might have had about the Specter defection were dispelled by his ridiculous gum-flapping over the weekend. What a maroon.

Arlen's a classy guy no doubt! But the whole War on Cancer is a great case study on how the government cannot accelerate basic science by throwing a lot of money at it. This is used shamelessly for things like stem cells to say that the evil republicans won't spend money when they could save Tiny Tim or fill in the blank. Basic science needs alot of independent people working possibly a long time to get that Eureka moment.

There are a great number of blind alleys in research.

That Specter can make such a statement about Kemp being saved, and in the same breath using his own treatment for a different kind of cancer as some sort of evidence, is one of the worst things I have heard a politician say in a long time.

Thing is, I am upset with myself for having voted for him once or twice in the past.

I just decided that I am going to make a max contribution to the leading challenger that Specter may face in the Democratic primary here in PA next spring (possibly Joe Sestak).

Samuel P. Langley received a small fortune in government funds to invent an airplane. The Wright Brothers, working out of a bicycle shop, beat him to it.

I have often wondered if the secret to being a liberal is to neglect the study of history.

Actually most hardcore liberals like to write their own.

JPMcT- That made me laugh. We certainly saw more than a little of than in the last election cycle. Who was the candidate who claimed she had to run to avoid snipers?
