Don'tmoveon.org

Moveon.org was originally formed during the Lewinsky scandal as a group that wanted Congress to censure President Clinton, not waste time with impeachment proceedings, and have the country "move on."

Now, Moveon.org invites you to sign a petition stating:
"No one is above the law. It's time to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate and prosecute the architects of the Bush-era torture program."
The politics of appointing a special prosecutor are absolutely toxic, and would make the Lewinsky scandal -- and the fact that a sitting president likely perjured himself in a civil suit (for which he had his Bar license later suspended) -- seem like a day at the beach.

Senator McCain, who has more than a passing acquaintance with both the consequences of actual torture and the 21st century politics of "coercive interrogations," has co-authored a letter to President Obama "urging him not to prosecute government officials who provided legal advice related to detainee interrogations."

If Senator McCain is prepared to give the lawyers (presumably a large subset of "architects") a pass and "move on," then perhaps Moveon.org could do the same. If not, then the organization might consider changing its name to wehatebushandwanttoseehiminjail.org. A bit cumbersome, but descriptive.

UPDATE: I see no mention of any kind of "special prosecutor" scenario anywhere is this AP article headlined "White House opposes special commission."

Perhaps it's time for an oppositional group to rise up. May I suggest: bringiton.org

Let the Left do its worst, but know they are setting a nasty precedent. (And elephants have very long memories.)

Hmmm, I suppose that would include the Congressional Intelligence Committees who were briefed and agreed with the policies.
