Annals of diplomacy: Respecting Muslims, but not Catholics?

Goddamn.

Are we to believe that there is not a single anti-abortion Irish-Catholic left in the Democratic Party? Otherwise, we are forced to choose between "incompetence" -- the criticism of choice from the left in the last eight years -- or the strange possibility that the Obama administration is being more solicitous of Muslim feelings than Catholic ones.

CWCID: Glenn Reynolds.

Strange indeed. It would be interesting to know the real reason why this happened. Perhaps they are "sending a message" or something? Why would anyone do something like this on purpose?

Maybe Obama just doesn't know anyone who isn't pro-abortion.

If this had happened once it could be a mistake but not three times. It's a passive/aggressive message.

That is Standard Operating Procedure for the Obama administration: make nice with international enemies, obliterate domestic enemies.

If the Vatican really cared about the issue, they would imprison as a hostage the next candidate who presents himself, refuse to negotiate with the United States, parade the disheveled and beaten poor slob on TV while building a gallows in St. Peters Square for his eventual destruction, and then- at the last minute- agree to a third party entreaty to release him in return for UN acknowledgement of respect for "Catholic rights" as distinct from catholic rights. Then, Code Pink would start to picket abortion clinics, the Democrat Party would appoint a National Outreach Coordinator to American Catholics and Obama would speak portentiously about the sins of the past administration in promoting actively anti-Catholic policies.

Et voila! Problem solved.

He could always send John Kerry.. at least that would represent French Catholics :)

Apparently you don't understand the message Obama is sending to the Vatican......let me translate his words for you. Obama is saying to the Pope, "you, and 2000 years of christianity are WRONG and must CHANGE, to MY VISION of the future.....after all, I am the messiah, or didn't you get the memo.....?"

"I HOPE you will understand, and CHANGE your views very quickly because you haven't much time left. There are many babies growing in wombs all over the world, that MUST BE KILLED." OR, do I have to come over there in CHANGE YOU, IN PERSON....?" "MY people are VERY unhappy with you right now......"

There now, I think you've got it.

The irony is that if Roe had been the law of the land in Hawaii circa 1961 ...

Obama's dad married his mom after she got pregnant. No shame in that, happens all the time. But it used to happen even more often.

Must...resist...snark.

Failing.

I sure hope Obama demands that the Vatican envoy to the US supports Obama's pro-choice position. Quid pro quo seems like an equitable compromise here.

Oh, is Obama judging foreigners by their moral positions now?
