A wiggle in the normal distribution

Sitting in a Starbucks in Palm Beach this morning, I could not help but notice that the number of women who are quite thin but have large breasts is far out of proportion to the usual ratio of such people. Economists and social scientists would say that this is an example of a "fat tail," which refers to an unexplained thick spot on the long tail of a normal distribution, but I am not sure that would be the most fitting term for this particular phenomenon.

It would be easier to understand this post if you included some pictures to illustrate your point.

I think the explanation is plastic surgery. I think the fact that you are in Flordia further supports this view.

"but I am not sure that would be the most fitting term for this particular phenomenon."....well, in light of this..." think the explanation is plastic surgery "...I agree, silicone is the explanation. But ,in answer to the TH query, it is called fraud, false advertising, deliberate deception. I also suspect that a lack of self esteem is involved.

A really well done pair of implants is hard to spot, but most of them whether silicone or saline (the latter much less expensive) usually evidence an clear arc of demarcation below the collar bone. Dead giveaway.
The being thin part, though takes hard work.

Did Mrs. TH ever get there?

Silicone...and bulimia.

Go to the non fraudulent parts of W. Palm and you'll see natural unmanufactured flesh--but of course it'll be on pensioners, blacks, Cubans and Dominicans (in other words more blacks).

One wonders about their experience level with the opposite sex

Fat tail is not an optimum term to use to describe any woman

Are you hanging out at Ted Kennedys again?

By Blogger Stephen, at Tue Mar 10, 10:12:00 AM:

I think you're observing the extremely rare "double bell curve," not the fat tail. As a scientist, I need to confirm your results. Please forward your GPS coordinates.

BTW, Palm Beach != West Palm Beach

There is very little of WPB that is as you say "fraudulent". All that is out on the island.

I thought i learned a formula in economics and finance that detailed:

C=Cash
B=Breast
W=Waist

C=(2*B)+(1/2W)

Are you meeting with Rush to chart the future of the Republican Party?

By Blogger Country Squire, at Tue Mar 10, 01:37:00 PM:

TH,

I have noticed the same thing in areas with a much higher than normal concentration of wealth. The women you saw could be a result of that wealth or in pursuit of it.

And it is so nice to see Mr. Chambers trolling with another variation of "women and minorities hit hardest".

Has the Donald called to invite you for cocktails yet?

Who here cares why they're large?

"Go to the non fraudulent parts of W. Palm and you'll see natural unmanufactured flesh"

No, I've seen the same thing in the Boynton Beach WalMart, just with more tattoos, and usually a little more mileage. Did you ever notice that everybody in NYC sounds like they're from West Palm?

Proctor John is right, but we also need to conduct a comprehensive examination of the subject before drawing any conclusions. Perhaps we can get a federal grant from the next stimulus package. I can think of few federal expenditures that would be more stimulating.

Well, I certainly hope that TH is not using his expert level of snarkiness to insult other medical device manufacturers (see Mentor) when he should be commiserating with them.

As someone with extensive, er, hands-on experience in all modalities, I can say that it's all good. Sure, there is no substitute for the real thing, but it's ultimately a personal decision.

Look, if you're a football player, sometimes you play on artificial turf, sometimes on natural grass.
