I guess we all need to reduce salt intake, drink more water and have more citrus, and let the kids know to do the same.

Gee do you think? Kids don't drink enough water, eat high salt content foods, drink carbonated drinks (caffeine is a diuretic), eat crap for food).
Saw my first 15 year old girl with a kidney stone. Didn't like water. Only drank coke. Meals consisted of (per mother) hamburgers, french fries and coke. The mother then had the audacity to say "see that is what I told you" when I advised reducing the coke, increasing the good ole H2O, and reducing sodium intake. The parents (loosely used term) have no control over what these kids put in their mouths. Parent want to be their children's best friend and only become involved when there is actually a problem...in this case, severe pain and blood in her urine.
Bah, parents. The animal kingdom does better raising their young.
" The parents (loosely used term) have no control "......They choose to exercise no control. Enough to make ones blood boil at times.

Ah, yes..."the White Pain" (term used to describe the complexion of somebody passing a kidney stone).
If it recurs, there are a series of simple tests that your doc can do to rule out rare but correctable problems. For most of us, it's fluid and urine pH control.
