To the 'dacks!

The TH family is on its way to the Adirondacks this morning, where we will spend Christmas. Blogging will probably be light today, although with an air card and two other drivers anything is possible. Until then, I leave you with two items.

  • A useful link to the allegedly best deals at Amazon! (it not being too late to order for Christmas); and

  • The observation that the government of New Jersey, or at least the overlapping entities responsible for Princeton Township, could not possibly do a worse job at clearing snow. How can it be that the residential street in front of my house has not been plowed 18 hours after the snow started to fall? Yes, it is nothing but a heap of ice boulders now, but back when it was merely slush -- most of last evening, for example -- it would have been an easy matter to plow it and it would be dry this morning. People complain about Illinois, but at least they can clear the damned snow there. Given the quality of our senators, I really would not mind Jon Corzine auctioning the next vacancy in return for competence at the clearing of snow.

    Just saying.

Sir, you whinge. Here residential streets are never plowed

    1) unless they are on a schoolbus route; and/or
    2) unless a 4WD cannot make it.

First, it's wheedling the government for snow removal. Next, it's Californicating NJ, and instituting the welfare state. You should (or we should) thank god for those "ice boulders;" they are what keeps you from sliding down the slippery slope.

In my hometown, one of my friends was elected to our City Counsel. Before he was elected our streets were plowed on a random basis if at all. After he was elected, the plows came by every 30 minutes during a snow storm.

Now that's today's America for you.
