Money politics

The final numbers are out. In case you missed them, Barack Obama raised $745 million in his presidential campaign, crushing John McCain's total ($320 million, including the public money for the general election piece) and all previous fundraising records. Of course, all the usual opponents of "money politics" have taken a vow of silence, probably because Obama's contributions came from "small donors." Oh, wait, no they didn't.

Anyway, expect that massive political fundraising will remain in fashion among the media -- indeed, it will be one metric of a candidate's "legitimacy" -- for at least eight more years.

You mean to say that once a Republican starts to lead in fundraising, we should expect to see the outraged MSM calling for government mandated limits on fundraising, compulsory public financing and the like?

But that would be rank hypocrisy!

By silence do you mean 'Obama, McCain funds equally matched'?

They will not stop moving the goal posts just because they won.

So does the Chicago mob qualify as a small donor?

Now that it has been established that finance fraud is OK if it's in the service of Democrats, I don't see them calling for limits on fundraising. The Democrats seem A-OK with being financed by Islamic terrorists.

Of course. The media needs the advertising dollars from political campaigns more than ever. More bucks means more ad sales. In many markets, politicians have to pay top dollar and have to pay in advance.

Look, the real problem is the 16th Amendment and the Imperial Fed.
The fact that a RINO was gored on his own wrong-headed legislation has a certain amount of left-handed justice to it.

I love that "evenly matched" article from Politico. Only a completely in-the-tank publication would describe a 30% (plus) advantage as "evenly matched".
