The mask slips a bit at The New Republic

The November 19 issue of The New Republic is given over the "O-List," a who's who of the "thirty people who will rule [there's that word again - ed.] Obama's Washington. It is not as terrifying as it might be, although any list with David Axelrod at the very top and John Kerry at number 17 is any arresting reminder that elections do indeed matter.

Anyway, the paragraph on Dick Durbin (number 16) probably admitted more than the New Republic intended (bold emphasis added):

It was telling that Obama asked Durbin to introduce the biggest speech of his career, back in Denver. Along with Claire McCaskill, he is the president's staunchest ally in the Senate, a total loyalist. That's a good thing for Obama, because the well-liked Durbin is the second most powerful Democrat there. Durbin will confront one problem with the Senate Democrats: They all believe they have more experience than that upstart president.

Because I am not a cynical person, I find it curious that TNR is taking judicial notice of the now apparently obvious point that "Senate Democrats ... all believe they have more experience" than Barack Obama. I seem to recall that Obama's experience was very much a matter of public discussion for a good part of this year, and we learn only now that Senate Democrats essentially agree with John McCain? I would have thought that observation would have been more useful in the months before November 4 than in the week after.

I love that phrase, "The media is so in the tank for Obama that they have started growing gills."

The first thing Dick has said that I agree with totally, which still puts him one below a stopped clock.

Sorry, Georgfelis, Dick did not say that. The New Republic said that. If only Dick had said it.

The "well liked" Dick Durbin? Maybe by Democrat Senators, but they've shown a willingness to embrace some real scumballs.

I really dislike him.

Richard Durbin (of Ohio)

I stand corrected. Dick still has a perfect record in my books, and is two short of that broken clock.

*sigh* Just when I think we are making headway...

60 Minutes also referred to Obama (after the election was over) as having "almost no national experience," in their profile of "Obama's Inner Circle" on Sunday.
