God validates Sarah Palin: Arctic sea ice returns to normal range
Arctic sea ice, the melting of which has become one of the favorite bits of pop-sci "evidence" that the planet's climate is warming, has recovered so quickly from its summer lows that it is just a hair below the "normal" range.
In recent years the press has covered every twitch in Arctic sea ice coverage with breathless headlines. Not now, though. Given that this manifestly good news would undercut those who have mocked Sarah Palin for her position on, well, the "endangerment" of polar bears, we should not expect any coverage of this story in the mainstream media until the second week in November.

I thought this graph from the same data source was interesting:

And there's the issue that Palin contradicted her own, state government scientists on the bears.
My bet offers are still standing, of course. The more information indicating that there's no ice problem is all the more reason for someone to take me up on them.
Also, maybe I'm imagining things, but wasn't there a post here about the white woman who says she was attacked by a black mugger/Barack supporter? The one whose story is now under some suspicion.
Does your grace period policy for correcting errors include deleting entire posts? Just curious, but maybe I'm remembering something from another blog.

I believe you are remembering something from another blog. I did not write such a post, and I did not delete such a post, and do not remember such a post having been written by one of my co-bloggers. I believe I have deleted only one entire post in the history of this blog (accidentally disclosed something I knew only in confidence).

Brian,
I believe you're thinking of some unrelated comments in this post:

Whilst on the subject of those whose poliical and world view influences their scientific conclusions, I finally saw Ben Stein's DVD "Expelled". having no life and rarely getting a chance to go to the movies, I missed it in the theatrical release.
I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the interviews on both sides of the "Intelligent Design" vs "Evolutionism" debate, but the film was actually more of a lament about the current lack of Academic Freedom. Scientific Academia is curretly VERY politically correct and viewpoints that don't toe the line are usually rewarded with obscurity and job actions, regardless of their scientific merit.
This is certainly applicable to the AGW debate. An increasing body of evidence is certainly accumulating that should AT LEAST give one pause, if not grave concern, about altering our economies and personal freedoms in pursuit of Normothermia. yet is is routinely ignored.
What exactly IS the "change we all need". It's starting to become clear....
