Revolutionary cowards
An Iranian Olympic swimmer drew a heat that included an Israeli, and so has withdrawn rather than compete. Of course, actually beating the Israelis would have great propaganda value, but the mullahs have to weigh that against the risk of humiliation. The Iranians, having learned their lesson from the Nazis (who got their Master Race butts kicked by Jesse Owens at the Berlin Olympics), have obviously decided that in swimming, at least, discretion is the better part of valor.

About 30 years ago I lived in the same neighborhood as Jesse Owens in Phoenix. I never met him, to my regret, but my children and the rest of the children in the neighborhood adored him.
, atThis happens with sad regularity, which is one of the reasons I tend to laugh when people say the United States is a prejudiced country.

Would love to see the IOC respond to this egregious bad sportsmanship and violation of the ideal of the Olympics (nations putting aside their differences, yadda, yadda) by lining up every Iranian athlete in an initial heat with an Israeli athlete.
I doubt they will, but it would be nice to see an international organization actually standing up for its noble ideals.
