Olympics double-standard watch: The IOC banned Iraq because...?

Game, set, match:

For a decade, the International Olympic Committee allowed Saddam Hussein's son Uday to imprison, torture, and kill Iraq's Olympic athletes without a word.

Meanwhile, the IOC, much like it did Germany in 1936, gives China a free ride despite the imprisonment, torture, and execution of political prisoners and asks that nobody politicize the Olympics.

It is fascinating then that the IOC decided that the current Iraqi Olympic committee has suffered political interference and therefore Iraqi athletes were banned from participating in the Beijing Olympics. ...

Apolitical my a**. So, to all you athletes out there, the IOC has now given you the green light to wear your save Tibet t-shirts whether or not you know where it is on a map.

More along the same lines at A Tangled Web.

The IOC, The U.N., The European Union, Obama's "citizen of the world" speech....my friends, be very afraid.

The United States has protected the "beta male" regimes of Europe for so many years that they now carry on like spoiled, socialistic children.

The Olympics, like the Nobel Prize proceedings, have now become forums of socialistic political expression.

The Bottom Line: I'm not surprised.

What is it about socialism and communism that the left likes so much? I though they were against torture and stuff like that. I guess is depends on who is doing the infringing of rights.

Reading the article I get the impression that the main concern of the IOC is to protect the jobs of the bureaucrats on the various national Olympic committees.

It has long been my view that the primary purpose of EVERY international bureaucracy, the UN, the EU, the IOC, etc., it to allow bureaucrats (who purchased their posts or had them purchased) to make administrative rulings, LOTS of administrative rulings, each of which can be reversed upon the payment of an honorarium.
Sadam paid to avoid friction and the current government of Iraq can afford to pay, as well.
