Maple in Mesopotamia: Canadians in Iraq
The Canadians have served at the tip of the spear in Afghanistan, but quite famously refused to participate in the Iraq adventure. Officially, that is. There are, in fact, Canadian soldiers serving there, but under American command. Keep that between us, though. Canadian politicians don't actually know about it.

I also met Canadian active duty folks while I was serving and interacted with Canadian civilians while on shore duty (in Canada: Halifax, N.S.).
I took my wife back to visit Halifax after getting out and have nothing but respect for Canadians and the Canadian military. Serving and ex-type.
Given all of our joint defense arrangements with Canada I guess I'm not surprised they have command types involved in the war, but I would be surprised if they have troopers serving at the company or platoon level. My reaction is "so what?" to this, but I'm sure there are those who think this means the coalition of the willinig just got bigger by one country...
