Joe Klein's dream scenario

Under an extraordinarily good headline, Joe Klein argues that the Democrats should, in their moment of great division, turn to the Gorebot. Klein, of course, does not address the question on everybody's mind: Can Gore lose all the weight he's gained fast enough? (Indeed, Klein implicitly understands this, insofar as his Time story uses an obviously dated and misleading picture of a thin-faced Gore.)

Not that I am one to talk, but I'm not a presidential candidate.

We have to be careful, because a new study talked about an increased risk of dementia for people with too much belly weight. As this front-end boomer ages, the odds for dementia increase. (Of course, some wags will say that given some of the former veep's statements, like what he said in the Middle East, he's already there).

Hey...John Derbyshire has been predicting this for months and with just enough conviction to make me fear the scenario late at night...

If Hillary wins big enough in the remaining primaries to be within a half million or so popular votes of Obama, she's going to claim that's "even enough", and given the popular-son vote advantage Obama was able to gather together in the always questionable Cook County I'd say she would be right.

Then Hillary will start talking about the abvantage she'll have in primary-selected delegates, pointing all the while to the curiously opaque caucus processes that yielded Obama his overall delegate advantage. And, guess what? She'll be right.

Then Hillary will point to her advantage in the Florida and Michigan garbage votes engineered by the DNC and the state committees, and she'll make the claim that any credentials solution cooked up in a quiet Denver conference room will need to reflect her win in those two disputed primaries. You know she's right on this one too.

So, on what basis does Joe Klein (sitting here on the verge of April fools day, no less) pronounce an "Gore/Obama" ticket as "the answer"! When Joe Klein, of all people, thinks he's the right guy to suggest political moves to the Clintons, then you really must know it's silly season.

The fastest way to find out if somebody is serious when they propose something like this is to say "I'll give you 50:1 odds if you'll put down ten bucks" Most of the time they backpeddle like they saw a rattlesnake, but sometimes its a quick way to win ten bucks :)

Hey, Taft was a rather big boy and made it into the White House. Sure, they had to redo the bathroom and there weren't a heck of a lot of TV appearances by candidates back then....

Holy crap, someone ate the Goracle! New game, folks, count the chins! No wait, it's just one continuous off-ramp from the mouth.

Gore may be carbon neutral, but his fried chicken footprint is clearly robust.

how is the diet going? is it a low glycemic diet?

By Blogger TigerHawk, at Fri Mar 28, 12:00:00 PM:

Well, the diet did not really get going until about 14 months after I put up that original post. Since the beginning of 2008, though, I have been much better about eating less and exercising more, so I have lost about 7 pounds and, perhaps more importantly, I am in better condition. So, at 204 or so I could stand to lose another 15 pounds on my frame, but I'm making genuine progress.
