Saudi Arabia lets women drive cars, stay in hotels

Saudi Arabia is going crazy with the women's lib, issuing driver's licenses to women and letting them stay in hotels unaccompanied by male family members (so long as the hotel immediately reports their presence to the local constabulary).

The ruling class hopes, apparently, is that women will be satisfied with these small gains rather than demanding other more objectionable freedoms. Unfortunately for Saudi conservatives, that is not usually how these things work.

Who is the bigger d-bag, the King of Saudi Arabia or the emir or Dubai? Oh please one of the White Men in Charge--can you please allow us to have hydrogen cars, maglev trains and real urban planning so we can simply NOT have to give a hang what these people are doing in the Middle East?

By the way, the news of the world seems to have taken a back seat to Heath ledger's death (actually a terrible loss, not some tabloid-fed crap), the Academy Award nominations, and Kim Kardashian's ample, shapely rear end in a pair of ski pants at the Sundance Film Festival. Maybe you are right. America gets back to normalcy...
