The NYT: Marines, at least, are guilty until proven innocent

Jim Hoff does a wonderful job of tracing the New York Times' editorial coverage of the Haditha Marines. American wars, apparently, are to be defined by the atrocities committed by American soldiers rather than the tyranny they destroy and the enemies they defeat.

But don't call them unpatriotic.

Why am I not surprised by any of this?

We are told our media (news + elite opinion) failed us on the run up to the invasion of Iraq. If true, why should they do a "good job" in the run up to withdrawing from Iraq?

We watched the media (again news + elite opinion) condemn the Duke rape suspects...who were innocent.

Now, we see the same thing happen re:Haditha.

When will people realize that people in the media are just like lots of people in the world? The form opinions and present them based on their own beliefs, preconceptions, and stereotypes.

So, I think I blame the NYT less than I blame lots of its readers. Media Literacy is a beautiful thing.

"enemies they defeat."

Well Damn! There is the problem right there!

They aren't supposed to _defeat_ them, dummy.

It simply breaks the heart.

I was surrounded this last week by some of the most hateful Liberal Democrats this past week.

They are truly concerning, and could not see the value of the liberation of the formerly oppressed in Iraq, due to their hatred for Republicans - Conservatives.

But then, in between football and baseball, I checked a number of Conservative boards - forums - blogs, and they seem 'stuck on stupid'.

One commenter wanted to impeach GW BUSH over immigration.

It is amazing, after all the Democrats have done, especially since 1996, to have some remain so lost, missing the bigger picture.

We best get it together, or the Marines who served in this admirable endeavor will be facing persecution forever.

We will regret the Democrat Majority and Presidency.

It will make every problem we have encountered now, seem incredibly small.

I believe the NYT is being pilloried right now for their craptastic journalism WRT the Duke University hoax.

It is not suprising to me in the least that they failed to learn anything.

The NYT is destined for the trash heap of history in very short order and it is due to willful journalistic malfeasance such as this issue that will put it there.
