Action shot
I caught a field hockey game this afternoon. That's the TigerHawk Tween making a big move:
I've noticed something about field hockey -- just when there is a real chance at some action, the ref blows the damn whistle. Let 'em play, ref!
On the other side of it, since parents do not know the rules they don't complain about bad calls. New Jersey parents having something of a reputation for, er, anger management issues, ignorance actually is bliss.

Having had two daughters play lots of field hockey, I will confess I really dislike the game. The kids don't get to play because the whistle is always, and I mean always, blowing just when things get interesting. The game is dangerous as all get out, and is the second leading sport for dangerous concussions at the high school level, according to the Lawrenceville athletic department. The indoor game is worse than the outdoor game, at least if the game is played on grass, since the kids have a harder time keeping the ball low indoors. Helmets aren't allowed because the national governance of the game is kept clutched in a death-grip by hide-bound insiders who are highly resistant to modernization. Incidently, not only is the sport boring and dangerous but US athletes are poor international performers because of that dinosaur governance group.
Other than those issues, it's alwasy a joy to watch the kids have fun! (Lacrosse is better)

I have to dissagree
Feildhockey is fun, and incredibly hard, the ref blows the whistle because of fowls being commited, and most of the time, refs will look the other way when a fowl is commited, because the victom's team has the ball, its fast pased and exciting!
