Poor taste on the campaign trail
I desperately hope that Giuliani campaign central had nothing to do with this hideous idea.
Yes, blogging has been lamer than an old nag. I'm busy adding to GDP.

A comment like that without an explanation of "hideous" isn't worth spit.

Giuliani campaign in a nutshell: "First of all, I'd like to thank you for coming here today. Don't worry about my lack of national-level experience, because 9/11 9/11, 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11. Second, elect me because also I took the credit for the reduction of crime in NYC, which conveniently happened to coincide with a large economic upturn. How convenient, I know! 9/11 9/11 9/11, 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11. Finally, don't look to closely at my personal life. Oh, and did I mention 9/11?"
(PS: this is Phrizz11. I'll be posting using this name from now on.)

Fritz -- great comment. :)
It does seem like Giuliani's overusing the 9/11 thing a bit, although I'd actually have to read or listen to one of his speeches before deciding. It could be that we're seeing bias on both the MSM's and bloggers' part. He might refer to it four times during a 15-minute speech, but when you compile them all together on a blogsite, and throw in the slant, it'll look like the speech was just laced with 9/11 references.
And, of course, it could be argued that "one goes with his or her strengths." If you've got a national reputation as a 9/11 hero, then you go with it. Anyone would. Even more so if it's a case that you're not just a 9/11 hero...but the 9/11 hero. Can you think of any other name associated with heroics that day? There were those people in the airplane, and brave firefighters on the ground, but can you remember their names?
So, it's hard to be too tough on the guy. He's just doing what you or I would do.
As far as his lack of national-level experience, I suppose two points could be made:
1. This is a good thing? No Beltway promises owed, no chits to be delivered, no backroom debts to pay? I like the idea of a clean slate.
2. How long has Fred been out of Washington? Twenty years? Fifty? Either way, a lot's changed. New faces, new rules, new favors owed to and from -- and let's not forget the recent ethics reforms. When your local lobbiest buys you off these days, you have to follow a whole different procedure!
So, if Fred's good enough, why isn't Rudy good enough?
Anyway, let's not be too hard on the guy. I don't suppose you saw the blog (in an open blog) I left on Ace's site the other day? It's something no right-wing blogger will ever read, yet they all should. I heartily commend the Hawkman for not becoming openly partisan so early in the game. It's all but ruined Hugh Hewitt's site for us Fredheads.

Back to the subject, I would note that TH's attack on Mr. G. comes under the heading of "fair game." Whether or not Mr. G. uses (or overuses) 9/11 as a campaign tactic isn't an "issue," it's just a matter of whether it's tacky or not.
Of course, when it comes to conservatives acting all high-and-mighty about people abusing 9/11, and how it "desecrates the memory of brave Americans who died there," there's always this infamous little conjunction of events to consider.
On a personal note, I'd like to thank all of the political bloggers for being such a ripe source of material. :)
