QE II 1, Mullahs 0
Queen Elizabeth II just walked up to the Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and yanked on his beard. Figuratively, of course, but importantly and courageously nonetheless.
One is forced to wonder whether Prince "defender of faith" Charles would have done the same thing had he been in charge.

It's amazing how much trouble a little old lady can start.
God Save The Queen.
I'm not so sure it was all that great. We all agree that we must defend SR's right to write whatever he wants at all costs. Making him a knight is something else. I am not familiar with the criteria for becoming a knight, but I am not sure SR is more qualified than any number of other writers, artists, or others for that honor.
Nor have I hear that he has offered any great service to GB beyond costing the taxpayers GBP 10 million and being a bit impolite about their society. (Based on this - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=462943&in_page_id=1770 . I'm not that familiar with it..)
It looks mostly like picking a fight, and I'm not sure that will benefit anyone just now.
Anon: that depends on whom you ask. I'm beginning to think that it's better to stop worrying about who is going to get offended among Muslims by what we publish. Just to make the point, that we're not afraid.
