Operation Hero Miles: Donate your frequent flier miles to injured soldiers and their families

This weekend, donate your frequent flier miles to injured soldiers and their families. The donated "Hero miles" will be used to get free tickets for injured American soldiers to fly home to visit their families, or to bring their families to visit them in the hospital. Most of the major airlines are participating, and have agreed to match all contributions between 6 a.m. today and 11:59 p.m. Memorial Day mile-for-mile.

Can you think of an easier, more appropriate Memorial Day cause? Give your miles today.

Donated 50,000 miles as soon as I saw this.

Thanks for alerting me to the opportunity.

Me, too, actually. So, our miles plus the match is already 200,000 miles -- that's up to 8 tickets, I believe, depending on the program. Excellent!

I donated all my American (54k) and Continental (22k) miles, but discovered I inadvertantly let my Delta (64k) miles expire in January... I wasn't going to be able to use them, so now someone else who is oh so deserving will...

I'll never fly Northwest again. Happy to donate my 15K miles.

Thanks for the heads-up, Tigerhawk. I don't fly too much anymore, but still had 27k hanging out in my American account and was happy to donate the miles. Great program! Regardless of one's views on the Iraq war, the soldiers deserve a thank you and a break, and this weekend is a good time to do it.

I just put in 50,000 United miles. Thank you for posting about this.
